YGWM Ignorant Bitches & Friday Eye-Candy

Happy M-F-ing FRIDAY!

happy_friday-1139

I only have ONE open letter this week. Not because there aren’t any other assholes that need me to tell them that I stole their lube and shoved this rusty pipe up their asses dry and with fervor. Because I am really ____ about this sudden critic outrage and aim toward our President’s plan to talk about education with our kids.

We all know that I avoid political debate and discussion on my blog. Mainly because I am not an expert and I do not feel comfortable debating things that I am not 100% secure in my knowledge of.

But this issue is different for me. With that, I shall open letter.

open-letter-stamp-copy

Dear Ignorant Critics, Parents, and Anyone Else Applicable:

I have read several articles, sides, opinions and the plan of discussion that was made public to us as U.S. Citizens. For anyone to bash a person for being INVOLVED with our children’s motivation to take their education seriously is both asinine and ignorance at it’s finest. Many of us never had someone who was a positive influence … a ROLE model … sit down and help motivate us to look at education and the benefits of staying in school, trying our damnedest to be successful at whatever it is that we wanted to do AND understanding just how God damned important it is to take it seriously.

Many children still do not have this. Their parents are drug addicts. They are being beaten down by someone or something and do not have the energy nor the means to pay any attention to these kids’ futures. They are gang members. Some of these kids are being physically, sexually and emotionally abused. Many kids come from broken homes, where the parent in their lives desperately wants to be an active part, but with 2+ jobs and a struggling economy, they simply cannot.

How is this interest … this … DESIRE to actually give a shit about the future leaders of our Nation propaganda? How is it a motive to indoctrinate children with ’socialist ideology’? I am seriously asking here. I am confused as to how it is different than any other President’s or First Lady’s attempt to be active in the lives of our young people.

Furthermore, I cannot imagine why a parent would threaten to TAKE THEIR CHILD out of school to prove a point? Please clarify what point this actually proves. Is it 1) proving that you actually really don’t care about your kids education? Because having them miss a day of school over an hour of EDUCATION AND WHY IT IS IMPORTANT discussions with our Nation’s Leader … doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Is it 2) that really, you did not / DO not want President Obama to actually BE our President? So supporting anything he says or does be it good, bad or indifferent … would be completely going against your beliefs?

Either way. Ignorant to the ignorantest level. Why? Because you are slighting your children. Why not offer an alternative for the kids that would not like to hear what the President has to say. ASK THEM what they want to do. And, if they are uninterested in hearing from their President, maybe their option is to write a paper discussing what education means to them. What do they plan on doing with their education? Why is important to stay in school? Because really … isn’t that the goal? Isn’t that what we need our kids to be doing? Staying in school? Going to college or military or apprenticeship or vocational training? Isn’t the reason why we are parents … to ensure that we provide the necessary tools for our kids to be the best at whatever it is that they want to do?

Well, kind Sir’s and Ma’am’s: Denying them the right to learn something … to be positively inspired … to possibly CHANGE the life of a less fortunate kid somewhere … is doing the complete opposite. I like to refer to this whole thing simply as “hating.” I say, stop hating. Knock it off. And, think about it. It’s all I am saying. I for one will make sure that, if my child is not allowed the opportunity to listen to our President speak, will be dismissing him from class to watch it with me at home and then returning him to school to finish out his day.

C.

Oh and one last thing. This is not about WHO the President is. It is about the MESSAGE that the President is attempting to spread. I would have the same reaction if any other President was slammed for doing something positive that directly affected my kids.

Lastly, a Friday Eye Candy that is a direct request from Tarable. She wants to see some Anthony Kiedis.

Love me some RHCP!!! Excellent choice :)

As for your rant, AMEN. Good lord, if I have to hear one more person bitch about Obama and what he’s NOT doing yet (in the 8 months he has been in office, compared to 8 YEARS of Bush crap that created the mess that we’re in), I’m going to punch them. Rome wasn’t built in a day, people, and neither was the fact that our kids are dumber than most First World nations’ kids and that we have one of the highest infant mortality rates in those same countries. I just want to say to all those people out there who are whining about our economy, healthcare debates, and education debates, GET OVER YOURSELF. Let’s find the POSITIVE in our systems and then get rid of the crap. Cut the programs that aren’t even being used, much less successful, and use that money toward something worthwhile – like educating our children to not be drug addicts, teen moms, and stuck in minimum wage jobs living off the system their entire life.

    Ugh.

    LivingWicked Reply:

Seriously. I voted for him. Because I honestly believe that he is the change we need. Not everyone agrees. And that is perfectly okay with me. My issue is that it seems to me that those who didn’t … are so butthurt that he won that they are literally picking apart every single move and I don’t remember a time where this has ever happened.

I am not going to agree with everything ANY President does. It is a fact.

Like, Bush was clowned. A lot. But wasn’t every President at some point?

I dont know I feel like he cannot win for losing. In this particular situation I just do not see how he can be hurting ANYONE.

    LivingWicked Reply:

Also, at the end of Under the Bridge when he is RUNNING.

Holy throb I want to hump his face off.

  2. Amanda Says:

This is the most ludicrous waste of time EVER. I’m so livid over this I can’t even compose my thoughts. The people are so Anti Obama it’s crazy. . .he could basically give everyone a million dollars of his own money and people would still want to stone him to the umpteenth degree. Every president goes and sits with classes of children. How dare we actually let an intellectual address the children like they are people instead of for a stupid story or a conversation about cats?

Ick. I feel sorry for the guy really.

    Pee.Ess. YUM.

    LivingWicked Reply:

I think he has tough skin. My concern is more these idiots taking something so important from their kids simply because of their own personal opinions.

How dare they? How selfish. How motherfucking ignorantly selfish.

  3. Bret Says:

While I do not agree with much of Obamas political beliefs, I have been more than willing to give him a chance. I see positive in the things he is attempting to get done, but at the same time, the portion of his speech which was released asking children how they can serve the President is a little over the top. I have to agree with my friend Michelle who asked the question, isn’t the President supposed to serve us?

Nuff said on the politics… It’s my Birthday Bitches! I get to hide out all weekend with my friends and avoid my family. WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Sorry, this weekend is going to be nice.

    LivingWicked Reply:

I didn’t hear the part you are referencing. I would like to though, so I can make sense of the point you are trying to make.

    Also, HAPPY MFING BDAY!

Thanks Court. I’ve going to enjoy the hell out of it starting in 5 minutes.. and running for 24 hours….

    LivingWicked Reply:

    :D You deserve it.

    bethany Reply:

I’d like to sort of clarify here:

The portion regarding children being asked to write letters on, “How can we serve the President?” was not in the actual speech. It was a part of the lesson plan that was put out by the U.S. Department of Education. It has since been revised and the language clarified. Though, I AM trying to track down exactly how it was revised, given what I’ve heard about this speech and taking an educated guess, I would assume the language should have read more something to the affect of, “how best can we achieve the goals the President has put forth in this address?” My understanding is, and by all accounts, this is NOT a speech to children on anything other than staying in school and taking responsibility for your education. That’s it. It’s acknowledging the fact that our drop out rate is extremely high and trying to make children feel like someone is watching and someone cares.

And, NEWS FLASH: the teachers don’t have to teach the lesson plans. They don’t have to ask students to write the letter, especially if they feel it’s objectionable. It was merely an aid, a plan, a goal, something for the kids to look at, and think, wow, someone is holding me accountable, perhaps I should take this seriously.

The full text of the speech will be published on Monday, by the way.

I wasn’t allowed to opt out when George H.W. Bush addressed us in 1991 and, I’m sorry, but I don’t think there’s a big conspiracy to indoctrinate children into serving the President. I believe this is a PR nightmare and that conservatives right now are looking for every miniscule crumb they can find and will twist and turn it, until they frighten Americans who don’t go and look at the true source, which, I’m sorry to say is the Fox news crowd, a crowd which polls consistently lower on true knowledge of public affairs than the Jon Stewart / Stephen Colbert crowd.

This is a dangerous precedent for politicians to set, because, if they truly do this now, in ten years it will look like what it is, in part, racially motivated because we don’t like a Black man in office and, in part, propaganda, not from the left, but from the right.

When W was President, we could not question him or his motives or anything. If W was still President and wanted to give this speech and liberals had trouble with the language or the lesson plans, we would have (and have been) accused of being unpatriotic and traitors, because, “how dare we question the President of the United States!”

You know, Obama has never once played the race card. That he is at least willing to tell school children that he got where he is by hard work and dedication is a message school children need to hear and, if far more parents were as interested in their child’s full school year, as they are in this ONE address and this ONE day, we wouldn’t have the problems with dropout rates that we do now.

    LivingWicked Reply:

    Thank you for the clarification.

Will you do me a favor and link me on Monday?

    Bret Reply:

Thanks Bethany. I agree parents need to be more involved in their kids education. My kids know that I see their homework every day, and we attend all school functions together. Unfortunately, you are right that many parents expect the schools to raise their kids for them, and are not willing to be involved.

While I am a conservative, I didn’t appreciate the Bush years (any of them), I much prefer Reagan who attempted social reforms and also held to the core values of the conservatives. Funny thing is, The Hawaiian (who works for a private school) has copies of the lesson plan, and her friends who teach at the public school have not been given copies of it. I don’t feel it was an attempt to indoctrinate the kids into serving the president, I do feel it was stated inappropriately, especially since the lesson plans were already being distributed. The text of the speech that she received had information on how kids could serve also. I wish I was closer to her right now so I could give you a copy, hopefully they are sending out updates to both as she refused to teach it or show the speech the way it was written.

Letter from the Principal at my kiddos’ school:

To all Rutherford County Schools parents:

As many of you are aware, President Barack Obama plans to deliver an address to students across the country next Tuesday at 11 a.m. Central Time.

Based on information we have received from the U.S. Department of Education, the speech is intended to promote the importance of education and for students to set personal, academic goals. The content of the speech— according to the U.S. Department of Education — is not expected to be political or address any policies.

We do believe that when the president of the United States speaks, it is our duty to listen, even if some don’t agree with his policies. To that end, our schools will tune into the speech at 11 a.m. using available televisions and computers. Any parent who would like to watch the address simultaneously can do so by tuning in to C-SPAN or by going to http://www.whitehouse.gov.

Our schools will not modify their normal schedules to watch the speech, and because of its timing, some students may be unable to watch it because of lunch and class changes. However, the speech can be downloaded after the fact if families wish to view it by going to http://www.whitehouse.gov.

The U.S. Department of Education also has provided lessons that teachers or parents may use to go along with the speech. Those materials are available now to anyone who would like to see them at http://www.ed.gov.

Any parent who does not wish for their children to participate may send a note to school with their children on Tuesday, September 8. Those children will be excused from watching the speech.

Thanks for your time, and I hope your family has an enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

**I live in a dominantly conservative state and county. But, I think the message is important…as is the website for those who wish to READ and not JUDGE the materials.

    LivingWicked Reply:

This is the PROPER way to address this. What a GREAT fucking principal/superintendent.

    Carol Reply:

You know my neighborhood…THIS is an excellent example of what I love most about their school. It’s why I am so desperately trying to stay in their school district.

I thought you would like the links…

    bethany Reply:

May I point out that you said your friend had received only an advance of the lesson plans, and yet, you continue to state that the parts you find questionable are in the text of the speech.

The text of the speech was not and has not been advanced to any schools. The decision was made late Thursday, I believe, to provide that on Monday, probably based on the fervor that this is creating.

President Obama doesn’t have the ability to control everyone and everything they put forth from the Department of Education. I can tell – this guy is NOT a micromanager. He puts people in place and expects them to do their job, like responsible adults. So, let’s get passed the lesson plan that was advanced to schools, because obviously, the Department of Education reviewed the complaints, understood that the language was an issue, and has moved forward to correct it.

I have just read the lesson plans as they are posted on the Department of Education’s website (thanks for the link, Carol). These plans are nothing more than worksheets that you generally get out of a textbook or when watching any video. They’re questions to sort of cement in the child’s mind the goals that they wish to achieve. These are exercises I’ve done in the past and, when you go to a job interview, they ask you, what are your strengths, what are your weaknesses, and you think about those a lot.

There’s nothing in here that is questionable and anyone that still has a problem with it, has a problem with the background political position of the POTUS.

    Carol Reply:

My own opinion is that we are, as a nation, incredibly lazy. It is easier to accuse and blame rather than take the time to educate ourselves. Again, the issue is not ANYTHING put in front of our kids…it is more about how we engage with our kids when WE are in front of them, with them, and how we bridge the gaps for the time spent apart.

For every 100 bitching idiots, how many do you think READ the link, investigated and formed a rational opinion of their own…instead of adopting the media’s or some other person’s opinion?

That is my long winded way of saying “you are welcome!”

I LOVE it when people who are not into politics write things like this. The emotion is so much more powerful, because its meant.

The truth is, people do not want to see this man, this Black man, succeed as President. There is such rampant racism running through this country. The ultimate good his Presidency will do, is that it will work to flush some of that out of our nation’s consciousness, but it, like the Civil Rights Acts in the Sixties, will take time and may not occur during his Presidency.

I’ll tell you, though, I worry about that man’s safety. This is the 60’s all over again.

All I can think about are the margaritas I’m going to drink after work tomorrow. Woot!

Oh yeah: Republicans, shut the hell up. Just because YOUR president took funding away from schools that needed the most help when their students didn’t meet federal testing standards doesn’t mean that it was a good idea. Let Obama revolutionize American healthcare and improve our education system at the source– through the children who are in school.

(I apologize to any Republicans who like the idea of healthcare for everyone and improving education. I’m only mad at the ones who are crying “Socialism!” every time Obama opens his mouth.)

I was thinking about education while I was on the treadmill for some reason. Only now I can’t remember what those thoughts were. They were probably life-changing yet simple, I’m sure. I’m guessing I would have been canonized for my idea. If only I could remember it…

I hate hate. And I do feel like some people are just so butthurt that they need to pick apart any and everything this man does. And I also feel like the message I saw that talked about “serving my president” was blown way out of proportion. (But, I don’t really follow the drama so it’s possible the one i saw isn’t the one they meant. Can a girl get a link to the other?) In my head, “serving my president” meant owning the phrase “BE the change you want to see in this world” which wasn’t Obama’s…

and i’m late to work. more later.

    Squish Reply:

Now that I have breakfast in me I am more calm about this.

I am more confused than anything else. I don’t understand what people are so scared of. He can’t indoctrinate your kids IF YOU DON’T LET HIM.

Instead of being all pissy about the fact that he’s saying it why not use it as an opportunity to talk to you kids about how awesome it is that we, in this nation, have the CHOICE to support our president or not? To talk about how to handle conflict with respect and tact? To tell them what you think and ask what they think? Or are you only pissy because it means you actually have to talk to your kid about what they did at school today? Because it might introduce a doctrine other than yours? Are you so afraid that your kid’s choices will be different than yours? Why is that so bad?

I am more than willing to try seeing things their way, but when I ask questions I tend to only get more emotional outbursts than a thought-provoking point or two.

And now I’m all agitated again. This is why I stay out of political discussions.

    LivingWicked Reply:

That is exactly my point. Selfish people don’t want to give their kids the option to think any differently than that of what THEY say or think.

It is why people are racist to this day. It is why sexism exists to this day. It is why it has taken THIS long to get a race OTHER THAN white in the Oval Office.

I don’t really see the uproar from a racist level. I just don’t. I don’t think this uproar has a damn thing to do with the color of anyone’s skin, including our President. It seems to me that just as quickly as the right wing cries “foul”, it seems the left wing cries “racism”.

It is utter, political bullshit. What scares me for our children is that we are still a nation that fuels the negativity of “foul” vs. “racism”, or political bullshittery…instead of focusing on what matters most. The message gets skewed in the process of such selfishness and negativity.

I think any parent stupid and selfish enough to teach their children to NOT respect our country’s leader needs to look in the mirror. Blaming anyone other than your own self, as a parent, is plain stupid. How can we teach respect, responsibility and so forth if we do not know and live those values? THAT is the problem in our country. Blame everyone except your own self. *insert scream here*

I am responsible for my children. It is MY role to understand what they are exposed to EVERY DAY…not just on the days the big things happen. Be involved EVERY DAY…and try to not be an ignorant, disrespectful, selfish ass in front of your children. We have plenty of those in our country…and don’t need another generation to continue the vicious cycle.

    LivingWicked Reply:

I don’t know if I agree 100% at the not racist. I think that it is a PART of it. Not all.

And yeah. It is our job as parents to allow them to think freely. It is also our job as parents to not force our own beliefs on them either.

    Carol Reply:

LMAO…me try to force ANYTHING on my kiddos? Ha…though i do shove a doze of sunshiney goodness down their little throats every day.

The racism may be part of it for some, but I don’t see that from the MAJORITY….I should have clarified that a bit.

    Bret Reply:

Agreed. Best part is when you diametrically opposed parents like my girls do. That is why we had so much fun married. We spent 14 years disagreeing about anything and everything. Of course, we both expressed our views to our kids, and they form their own opinions.

    Carol Reply:

Again, there are healthy ways to disagree. I welcome it anytime my kiddos disagree with me. I encourage them to voice their own opinions and share why they feel the way they do.

  19. Dre Says:

Honestly, I think the kids in public and private schools alike need to hear this right now. HELL I think I need to hear this right now. The fact that we point fingers and say “Well, that’s not fair, because your stupid!” and then stick our fingers in our ears like two year olds screaming “LALALAALALA!! CAN’T HEAR YOU!!” shouldn’t be acceptable in politics at this point. It’s like, because our president says something someone has to smash it into the ground and tear it into tiny bits.. and then everyone plays the game and A) shit doesn’t get done. or B) The people that need to hear it the most never get to, and the people that don’t like it listen to it and spit on it. . . . BLAHHH.
