Please to Answer Ze Questions

by PrincessQ on 2010/01/28

So, V-day is coming up and all that. And I normally don’t care buuuuuuuuuut…now that I’m a relationship columnist (Wtf were they thinking?) I want to make sure I write accurate articles so answer me a couple of questions, please? Yes? Yes.

1) What is your best V-Day memory? Your worst? Your funniest?

2) Ideas for non-romantic couple-y things to do on/around V-Day?

3) How’s about what my single ladies are doing? Do you have a tradition with your girls? Do you take the day to pamper yourself? Do you completely ignore it?

Please help me out and I’ll love you forever.  The best quotes WILL get sound bites on the articles :)

I don’t have much to talk about these days. I’m pretty exhausted…and I’ve come to the conclusion that I was stretching myself out too thin so I shall be focusing on writing only. I’ll let my lovely LiLu handle the blog moves so if you’re looking to move to your own self-hosted Wordpress, holla at her and tell her I sent you.

I’ve sent out more samples for freelance gigs so fingers crossed.

School is kicking my ass but it’s all good.

I’m paying down my credit cards…I’ve been doing super good with money lately. Let’s hope it keeps up.

I’m doing my best to stay away from Etsy. BUT EVERYTHING IS SO PRETTY! Like the prints in the giveaway that Lizzy Marie is having over at It’s Unbeweavable.

In other news, I want this. Now.

And I’m spent.

ugh, valentines day, i do feel it is overrated. last year was the first year i had a bf during the “holiday”. we went to the portrait gallery and out to dinner at new heights in woodley. nice and nice.
this year i have a different bf and i kind of just want to stay in and make a nice meal. it doesnt hurt that Victoria’s Secret sent me a coupon for a free “lacy thong” either ;-) . i guess i’m in the minority of girls who just want a simple, “will you be my valentine?” on valentine’s day.

I have unValentines related bad luck on the 14th so it’s not a happy memory day for me, I prefer for it to come and go.
As for Valentines itself? I don’t like it, all the cutesy pink and fluffy crap makes nauseous and not really sure what the day is for besides mark ups on dinners, flowers, and jewelry. If your S.O. does something romantic out of obligation how unromantic is that? Any day that inspires single girl help specials on daytime talk shows pisses me off. I don’t see any articles telling single guys how to survive V-day alone, just how to not piss off his gf with the wrong gift.
Don’t wait for a commercial holiday to treat your S.O. well. Don’t let others tell you you’re lesser if you’re single. Feb 15th will come around and all those “tokens of love” will be in the clearance bin because they are junk. Show someone you love them everyday and not with cheaply made crap one day a year.

This is the first year that I’m in a relationship and I still see VD being totally overrated and commercial.

You’re right. There’s absolutely no need to wait around for a holiday to do something special.

Nor do single girls need ‘help’.

WTF is up with that mentality? (Dont even get me started!)

The last couple years I didn’t have an S.O., always went to a friend’s Anti V-day party, mostly singles that already knew each other, couples allowed but no PDA while at the party :) This year me and the S.O. are probably taking a walk outside if it’s nice and then making pizza at home. I’m relenting to his choice of toppings as my present.
Best Valentines day was in college when a good friend surprised me after a late class and we went to dinner with a couple of other people, spontaneous, I didn’t have to plan anything, not awkward and made for a fun memory.

funniest/best thing ive heard about for singletons this v-day is an event hosted by my church for it’s young adult members called Singles Awareness Day (aka S.A.D.) What makes this even better is the young adult group is known as St. Thomas Apostle Young Adult community, or S.T.A.Y, so this event is called STAY SAD. They made tshirts and are hosting a bar crawl! Sorta taking the ironic yet funny approach to having a fun v-day as a singleton!

1) I don’t really have one, which is weird because I haven’t been single on Valentines Day since I was 15 years old.

2) Bowling. Hanging out with friends. I’m a bad person to ask, because I think everything can be romantic when it’s done with someone you love.

Can we just change the name from Valentine’s Day to “Bullshit holiday designed to make it impossible to eat out, with its main focus on sap”? Please and thank you.

Obviously, I’m not one for Valentine’s Day. I’ve had boyfriends and not had boyfriends and I think my least disappointing Valentine’s Day was last year when I sat and home and alphabetized my DVDs. This year, I’m hoping for a girls’ night something.

Girl’s night out would be awesome.

I didn’t have that when I was single. That’s kind of what I want now that I have a bf.

How weird am I?

1) I think the worst V-Day I ever had was in 4th grade when I asked the kid I had a crush on to be my Valentine via one of those “circle one” notes. Rather than circling “no”, he deemed it appropriate to announce to the entire class that he would never be my Valentine and tore my note up. (I know. Sad face.)

2) I think being active is the best non-romantic thing to do on V-Day. While anything you do can be twisted into a romantic event when you’re with an SO… I think doing stuff like dirt biking, paint balling, go cart racing, etc. is the best non-mushy date you could go on.

3) Typically I’ll buy all my friends those cheap valentines day cards and a box of convo hearts. Then I buy myself a bottle of wine, the most absurd box of chocolates I can find, and treat myself to a movie.

I love V-Day – whether with a boyfriend or with my girls.

One of the best was actually here in DC when I was single, a group of us bought some wine and went to HR-57 (on 14th) for a jazz show. Very low key, but very nice.

My best couple-y ones, though, haven’t been because of what we did, they’ve been because of who they were with. *cue the sappy music*

Have only NOT been single for 3 valentines days out of 30 years. I hate valentines day and all it stands for.

BUT in answer to question number 3 . . .

I spend the day cruising anti-vday sites and watching chick-flicks. Contradiction? I know. But that’s me…

My worst Valentine’s Day is a toss-up between the time my boyfriend came home from the army to visit me at college but then his brother’s best friend died & he had to rush home… and the time I spent Valentine’s Day at my ex-boyfriend’s funeral.

Yeah. Needless to say, I don’t really do Valentine’s Day…

1) What is your best V-Day memory? My Hubby left me a teddy bear and a card on my front door step so when I came home it was there waiting “awww” :)
Your worst? My ex got drunk and passed out… on TOP of me (while having sex) so not fun
Your funniest? My ex… got drunk… oh wait… you’ve heard this one lol

2) Ideas for non-romantic couple-y things to do on/around V-Day? Umm… nooo clue, sorry :(

3) How’s about what my single ladies are doing? Do you have a tradition with your girls? Do you take the day to pamper yourself? Do you completely ignore it?
When I was single, me and my girlfriends would always go to dinner and a club called Hearthrob that played 80s music to mark our beautiful throbless hearts on v day :)

I’m spending V-Day with those of the vagina variety…my girls. Friends are the true loves of my life for now-not to get all sex and the city on you.

Rest up pretty lady. And thanks for the giveaway luuuurve! XOXO!!!

Got engaged on Valentine’s Day. Corny, no? But it’s true… dinner at the Melting Pot, box of Godiva chocolates, and a diamond ring rigged in the box.

I can really only answer part of question one…

Worst Valentine’s Day was with my high school boyfriend. We dated about three years, ish, total.

It was V-Day and he very much wanted to see Daredevil when it came out. Not only was he a major superhero fan, but Ben Affleck was his favorite character. Problem with that? He was so enthralled with the movie, he completely ignored me, even refusing to hold my hand. Very much not okay, ha.
