Cheers to Beantown

by PrincessQ on 2009/11/03

I don’t even know where to begin with my trip to Boston. My flight was at 6:30 a.m. Friday morning so my amazing boyfriend got up at 4 a.m. with me to give me a ride to the airport. This was my first domestic flight so getting through security was a lot easier (You don’t need my passport? What?), and it was strange that I could pick my own seat. (But I am told that’s just a Southwest thing…). I never sleep on flights so I bought two books (Because I can’t just buy a magazine…I have no willpower whatsoever…Damn those bazillion newstands in the airport) and settled down in my seat with a book. Next thing I know, I was waking up and the pilot was announcing the descent to Boston. *Squee*

When I landed in Boston, I was still groggy because I had just woken up, hadn’t had any coffee and I had to make my way through the public transportation system in a city that I didn’t know to walk through streets that were foreign to me. Once I made it on the blue line of the T going in the CORRECT direction (I may have gone one stop in the wrong direction), transferring to Green and then RED, I was free in the streets of Boston. (I was very proud of this accomplishment despite Liz saying “It’s actually a really simple commute.”) The 5 minute walk from the T to my friends’ house turned into 15 minutes when I honed in on a Starbucks and couldn’t walk in any other direction. Once I made it to their house, we drove Liz to work and Jordan & I went back to their kick-ass apartment so I could charge my phone.

Then Jordan played tour guide for a few hours while Liz was at work…The streets of Boston reminded me of Istanbul so much…the entire time, I was in awe and homesick. It was beyond gorgeous and I decided within the first 10 minutes that I was moving to Boston. I ate pizza from Ernesto’s in Little Italy (If you’re in Boston, you HAVE to get pizza from Ernesto’s), had an OctoberFest in Cheers (Where everybody knows your name!) and walked through the Public Gardens where I saw the most disturbing statue ever. (GingerMandy and I are stealing it for our living room.) The rest of the day was pretty low key…Liz and I went to get some liquor and food for dinner and we just hung out…started to watch a really random and horrible ‘horror’ flick called “Trick R Treat”…but I fell asleep during it. (We did also go see Boondock Saints 2…but I refuse to talk about it. REFUSE!! Just don’t see it. Just…don’t.)

Saturday was just getting up super late and running around to do some last minute shopping…Got home to get ready and went to dinner at Grendel’s Den where I saw the Ambigiously Gay Duo and had to get a picture with them (NO ONE RECOGNIZES US!!) Other honorable mentions for Halloween costumes this weekend was “The King of Pop”, the kid who was far too young to be wearing the “Risky Business” get up and Devo. After a pretty low-key birthday/Halloween party, we made our way back home to start watching “Drag Me to Hell” which was wicked awesome…Until I passed out again.

Sunday was the flight back…Where I was stuck at the airport for two extra hours because of a malfunction on the plane. I made it back to BWI around 6…where I was picked up by my awesome boyfriend. (Seriously, I am so fucking lucky).

And I will be going back to Boston…multiple times…until I probably end up moving there.

There are some AWESOME scenery shots in this album…

As someone who harbored an insane love affair with Boston for five years while I sweated away my early twenties in Washington, D.C., I will be the first to say, “Boston is the best!” Yeahhh…but imagine that in less of a 13-year-old cheerleader style, okay??

Seriously, though, last year I left the District for Beantown. How’s that for true love?!

Boston is amazing and I’m so glad to hear you loved it. It really has so much life and character and history. I’d move there in a heart beat if my boyfriend wasn’t 100% anti-Boston (by that I mean he loathes the Patriots and Red Sox).

My Halloween was spent at Busch Gardens so all in all pretty damn awesome.

This post just made me even more ready to go back to Boston this Christmas. Just not driving this time. Once was good enough.

Some things that will make you fall even more in love with Boston:

~ Beanpot Tourney – first two Monday nights in Feb, at the (new)Garden

~ St Patrick’s Day – March 17 (rain or shine ;) EVERYONE is Irish for the day (just don’t wear orange)

~ Patriots’ Day – Red Sox home game & Boston Marathon. They’ve made some changes to the race start a few years ago so it’s not AS cool as it used to be but still not bad

~ July 4th – D.C. probably has better fireworks but they don’t have the Pops!

~ Head of the Charles Regatta – mid to late October, largest crew regatta in the world, when the weather is nice this is an epic party

~ Boston Ballet’s Nutcracker – it ain’t Christmas in Boston until you’ve been

*and only tourists call it Beantown ;) *

Funny part is that the Republican party was formed to FREE the slaves (which the Democrats opposed). Martin Luther King was a Republican. And now they have their own ‘Coffee Party” full of children of the rich and people (of all colors) are ready to fall at their feet. By the way, do you know the difference between the Republican and Democrat parties? Republicans are rich greedy company owners who never worked a day in their lives and Democrats are the children of the rich greedy company owners that are still rebelling against their rich greedy Republican parents. And until Mommy and Daddy stop taking care of them, they will continue to do so. The worse part about it is, the hard working Americans are the ones stuck in the middle because somebody has to work so the money can keep rolling in. Oh, that’s right, Clinton (another poor little rich boy) sent all the good jobs overseas when he signed NAFTA so all the rich, greedy, company owners could pay kids 50 cents a day in sweat shops. (It’s legal over there)
