Born To _____: A Giveaway!

We’ve all gotten those emails. The ones that just scream scam yet we might be tempted to check it out. During a busy week when my flake factor was high, I ignored an email that seemed just like one of those emails. A couple of days later, there was a follow up from the same person. The email read:

“Based on your voice in your blog, we thought that you might enjoy the experience of being a Gap Brand Enthusiast, and being one of the first in the country to try Gap’s newly engineered denim range. … We are planning to offer these parties in July, and we would like to extend an invitation to you to be considered as a Brand Enthusiast and to host your best girlfriends for a party where you would all be spoiled with Gap goodies. There is absolutely no catch to the program- if selected, we just want to invest in you and foster a relationship between you and the brand.”

Catchy right? So I checked with a couple of people and I got an email from LiLu saying “I just had lunch with her!”…so this person was real. I met with Justine from Brand About Town that night for a drink and she explained the program to me, got some information and said she would follow up. A couple of weeks later, I came home to a big box with Gap on the label. I may or may not have squealed. The box included a tote bag, a bottle of Close and a pack of lip gloss with a Welcome letter to becoming a Gap Brand Enthusiast.

I sent out my invites, planned the night and invited my favorite girls in DC. Unfortunately things came up for a few of them so we only ended up with LiLu, Lexa, Suburban Sweetheart, Alice and Was It For This along with my roommate C-Pants. Even though all the people I invited couldn’t be there, our enthusiasm and excitement for the night wasn’t any less. I set up the 1969 Jeans on our dining room table before the girls got there, along with the awesome tote bags, the goodies I got, the Born to Smile camera and the bowl with the Born to Pop popcorn & Born to Indulge M&Ms.

We had a good time trying on the jeans. As someone who finds it difficult to find jeans that fit me right and comfortably, I was pleased with the way the new 1969 Gap Jeans fit…in boot cut, as well as the skinny and straight leg (Though I don’t think I could ever wear the Skinny jeans.) I was more than pleased that each of the ladies that came were able to find a pair of the 1960 Gap Jeans that they liked. After we tried on the jeans and everyone found one they liked the best, we sat around eating the M&M’s and having a great girl’s night, enjoying our time together.

The only thing ‘negative’ about the experience I would say is the fact that the Boot Cut jeans weren’t labeled so we had to dig for the label stitched inside the jeans…but a little digging never hurt anyone. All in all, from meeting Justine, going to LiLu’s Nintendo Ds party, and holding my own Gap Born to Fit Party where we got free jeans, and hung out having a great time…I’m glad that email wasn’t a scam…and I’m very glad that Justine was persistent and sent me that second email. As far as the new 1969 Premium Denim…nice job Gap. Your new line is a perfect fit for me and all the other ladies that have tried them on so far.
